Dubai School Admissions 2027: When and How to Apply

September 2026
Students are back at school across Dubai, and while children are settling into the new academic year, Dubai school admissions teams are already turning their attention to the 2027–28 academic year.
If your child was born in 2024, they may be eligible to start school in August 2027.
For many schools in Dubai, applications for August open during the autumn of the preceding year. Some schools have a clearly defined application timeline, while others accept applications throughout the year and make offers as places become available.
Either way, if you have a particular school in mind, it pays to start early.
Where should I start?
The first step is to create a shortlist of schools that match your family's requirements and preferences.
Consider factors such as:
Curriculum and academic approach
Location and journey time
Fees
School size and facilities
Admissions criteria
Your child's individual needs and interests
Once you have a shortlist, contact the schools and arrange a tour. Visiting a school is one of the best ways to get a feel for its environment, culture and community—and to decide whether it really is the right fit for your child.
Following your visit, you can submit an application. Depending on the school and year group, this may be followed by an assessment or meeting with your child.
If your application is successful, the school will issue an Offer of Place. You will normally need to confirm your acceptance by paying a deposit towards tuition fees.
Then you can relax! Your child's place is secured, and you can start looking forward to the new school year.
Why should I apply so early?
Applying early gives you the widest possible choice.
No two schools in Dubai are the same, and many popular schools receive more applications than they have places available. These schools may be selective in their admissions process, have strict application deadlines, and operate waiting lists. If you delay, you might miss out on these top schools.
If your first-choice school isn't available, applying early gives you time to explore alternatives.
It also gives you peace of mind. Once your child's place is secured, you can budget accordingly and make other family plans with confidence.

FAQs
When should I apply for a school place in Dubai?
For many Dubai schools, applications open during September or October of the preceding year. However, admissions policies vary, so families should check directly with their preferred schools and start the process as early as possible.
When should I apply if my child was born in 2024?
Children born in 2024 may be eligible to start school in August 2027, depending on the school's admissions policy and year-group age requirements.
My child was born in 2025, can I apply now?
There are some schools that open applications two years in advance. If you have a particular school in mind it is worth checking their application timelines. It may also be helpful for you to begin creating your shortlist of best schools in Dubai now and visiting them throughout the year so you are ready to apply to next autumn.
Can I still apply to Dubai schools later in the year?
Yes. Many Dubai schools accept applications throughout the year where places are available. However, popular year groups and schools may have waiting lists, so it is best not to leave your application until the last minute.
What is an Offer of Place?
An Offer of Place is the school's formal offer of admission. Families will normally need to accept the offer and pay the required deposit within a specified period to secure the place.
How many schools should I apply to?
Our Navigate.Ed shortlists recommend 3 or 4 top Dubai schools which best fit your child and family. Experience has shown us parents find it helpful to visit at least two schools before making a choice. You may be able to apply to your first choice and accept an offer within a week. Under other circumstances you may be waiting months to receive an application outcome. Our Navigate.Ed advisers will be able to recommend whether multiple applications may be necessary.
What is the standard application timeline?
Each school in Dubai operates their own admissions process and timeline. This can make things complicated if you are considering several different schools. Support services, such as those offered by Navigate.Ed, can ease the administrative burden of juggling multiple applications.
